Nazarbayev University researchers are expected to adhere to ethical, legal, and professional guidelines that define how research is conducted. Each member of the NU community has a responsibility to report any occurrence that he or she believes in good faith to be research misconduct. Consultation and guidance are always available from the Office of Research Compliance and Integrity (
ORCI) or from senior management (Vice Provost for Research, Deans, and Department Heads).
According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
Federal Policy on Research Misconduct, research misconduct means fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism in proposing, performing, or reviewing research, or in reporting research results.
(a)
Fabrication is making up data or results and recording or reporting them.
(b)
Falsification is manipulating research materials, equipment, or processes, or changing or omitting data or results such that the research is not accurately represented in the research record.
(c)
Plagiarism is the appropriation of another person's ideas, processes, results, or words without giving appropriate credit.
(d) Research misconduct
does not include honest errors or differences of opinion.
